We’re a small school with big opportunities. Whether you like sports, the arts, sciences, or something in between, St. Alphonsus has something for you!<\/p>\n

Academic Decathlon<\/h2>\n

The National Catholic AJHD<\/a> Academic Decathlon is a rigorous competition featuring middle school teams from across the Archdiocese of Seattle and consists of a Super Quiz, a logic quiz, and eight additional subject areas. St. Alphonsus fielded two Academic Decathlon teams for the first time in 2023-24. Since then, St. Al’s has won the regional championship twice (23-24 & 24-25), several students earned medals in their subjects, and one student won the national championship in her subject. Students interested in participating in the Academic Decathlon must be in 6th-8th grades and commit to the team during winter enrichment.<\/p>\n

CYO Sports<\/h2>\n

St. Alphonsus participates in the Archdiocese of Seattle\u2019s Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) athletics program. Learn more<\/strong><\/a> about current offerings for students in preschool through 8th grade.<\/p>\n

Drama<\/h2>\n

Schedule<\/strong>: 10 Wednesdays, October 4th – December 13th, 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM (No class: 11\/22)<\/p>\n

This exciting program from Afterschool Enrichment Solutions brings together elements of science, art and math in a hands-on, action-packed environment! Students will conduct experiments, play educational games, and unlock their creativity through building challenges and projects. No experience necessary!<\/p>\n

<\/span>Percussion Ensemble - Grades 5-8<\/div>
<\/strong><\/p>\n

Percussion Ensemble is open to all middle school students. No percussion experience is required. We bang on buckets and garbage cans. We boom with boomwhackers. We build instruments out of PVC pipe. We make a lot of noise! We also learn about rhythm and form. We build musical textures and find interesting timbres. Students are encouraged to improvise and discover beats and rhythmic patterns in the music. We play to current popular music as well as world music. We also compose and create original pieces.<\/p>\n

Learn the basics of chess, pair up with players of similar skill level, and expand your game by learning new techniques. Who will be the next grandmaster?<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong>: 3:20-4:20pm<\/p>\n

Dates<\/strong>: alternating Thursdays for gr. K-4 and gr. 5-8.<\/p>\n

VEX IQ is a snap-together robotics system designed from the ground up to provide novice users the chance to find success quickly, while still being able to constantly challenge more advanced users. It integrates Computer Science and Computational Thinking off of the screen and provides an engaging hands-on experience. LIMITED TO 18 STUDENTS.<\/p>\n

Lights, Camera, Act! Does your child have a \u201cdramatic side\u201d? You might have a budding Stage Star in your family! Our drama class introduces students to the craft of stage acting with a skilled theater instructor. During this exciting class, students will learn theatrical skills, improv basics, and participate in interactive drama games. This class provides opportunities for students to have fun, express themselves, gain confidence, and interact with others, all within the context of theatre arts.<\/p>\n
