Pizza party at the end of the season!

Like cross-country, practices are optional–we understand kids have many other commitments, so please send your kids when it works. Please don’t worry if you can attend any or all of the meets.  Also, we understand many kids do club sports outside of school, so if they can’t make any practices but will be running elsewhere, we would still love to have them for meets if they are interested, so let us know. CYO Sports Registration Link

We need your CYO photos for the website and the yearbook!  Please send any photos to mwisen@stalseattle.org or to cyo@stalseattle.org.

CYO Athletics

Track Registration is opening soon!

Does your child like to run?  Jump?  Throw things? Get to know kids in other grades?  Have fun?  Track season is starting soon!  Sign your 4th – 8th grader up for the St. Al/St. John track team.  We had a ton of fun last year with a record 85 kids participating, and a 2018 CYO championship team win.  We look forward to another year and any and all are welcome to participate regardless of experience or ability.

Practices start Monday, March 25 and continue through the end of May.  Practices will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the Ingraham High School track.  This year we are also able to offer Friday practices, 6:30 – 7:30, for those who want to do a bit more running or get additional practice on their field events.  Meets will be on Saturdays, May 4, 11, 18, and June 1. There is also a very fun 8th grade-only Pentathlon on May 19 that we encourage all 8th graders to participate in—pizza party details will be forthcoming.

We’re welcoming back Mike Martinez as distance coach and Trevor Sevigny as sprinting coach, and are thrilled to have Dave White and Rachel Lambert on board to coach sprinting and Chris and Marie Holt back to continue their support with coaching distance.  If anyone else has a passion for track, we welcome any and all parent-helpers at practices.

Hello St. Al Families,

Announcements

  • Accreditation Parent Survey

As some of you may know, this is our self-study year for accreditation.   This fall we have already been collecting evidence for various sections of our report.  We are now asking for the completion of a parent survey, filled out by current parents of St. Alphonsus students.  The deadline for completion of the survey is November 16.  At that time we will take the survey offline and begin sorting through responses.  Your participation in this survey is essential.  It serves as a key item for our initial analysis of the current state of our school and will be counted among other forms of data to determine next steps in our accreditation journey.

  • Congratulations to 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys soccer.  Along with our teammates from St. John, they both won their championship games this weekend.
  • Calling all students who love to sing, the parish youth choir is looking for anyone 3rd-12th grade who would like to join.  Contact the parish office for more information. Non-parish? No problem.

The Sounders have a chance to make a historic win streak as they have already surged from near last place into a playoff berth.

Tickets are around $25 (depending on quantity). You can purchase them through Sportspilot.  Families just need to log into Sportpilot https://reg.sportspilot.com/106510/login , select register “Begin Registration”, select any family member, then Sounders Game and they can select the quantity they need.

Please purchase your tickets by Wednesday so we can organize the experiences and  be able to email you the tickets by Friday.  All St. Al/St. John students present, past and future welcome!

For birth years 2000-2010: Check out https://www.shorelinesportsclub.com/ . The coaching philosophy and focus on the game is CYO friendly. This is a great option for advanced soccer without the extreme time intensity and cost of other local organizations.

B. Summer Youth Program June 25- August 24 is only $350 for Monday – Thursday 9:30 am – 12:30 pm at Bitterlake CC. Ages 7-17.

CYO Track and Field Registration

CYO Track and Field starts soon:
Register your 4th – 8th graders now!

3rd graders are welcome to join at practice.

The daffodils are blooming and sun-breaks are emerging – this can only mean one thing: track season is here! Please don’t forget to register: visit the SportsPilot link and click “REGISTER HERE”.   Scholarships available too, just email cyo-scholarships@stjohnsea.org.

Running events include distance, sprints and relays of varying lengths. In addition to the running events CYO Track and Field features high jump, long jump, shot put, softball throw and turbojav.  8th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Pentathlon.

  • Practices begin Monday, March 26 and run to May 31 (no practice Memorial Day)
  • Practices: Mon. and Wed. 6:30 pm-8 pm at the Ingraham HS Track
  • Coaches can be very flexible on practice attendance for kids in conflicting sports programs, such as club soccer, baseball or Girls on the Run – please reach out to Coaches Mike or Sam with questions.
  • Runners compete according to grade/gender and we need at least 8 runners per grade/gender to run two team relays.

Kids don’t need to have any track experience—they just need a good attitude and willingness to try. Coach Mike Martinez (distance runners) and Coach Sam Lipscomb (sprinters) are both fabulous and fun, and welcome any parents can come who can help with practices and run with kids. Lorna Luebbe and Nelle Steele will be the team coordinators and help with field event practice.
