Overview
CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) Athletics is sports done a different way — as one community. Individuals and teams strive for greatness in accordance with Gospel values. To develop the whole person, we teach that success is not measured solely by the scoreboard, but by the effort, team play and fun of the experience
CYO Athletics is a great way to offer students exposure to a variety of sports, in a competitive, fair, relaxed and understanding atmosphere. Financial aid is available. St. Alphonsus and St. John School partner together to form one team in CYO Sports.
All CYO sports registrations are announced via the Angels’ Angle newsletter, with registration occurring on the TeamSideline page.

PARENT LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY TRAINING & COACH TRAINING
Parents: Parents who are not coaches are required to attend a Parent Like a Champion workshop (only one parent needs to attend). The workshop is offered virtually via Zoom and must be completed prior to registering a child for an upcoming sports season. Note: coaches who have already completed the Coaches PLACT Training or Human Kinetics course are not required to also attend a Parent Like A Champion workshop. Therefore, if a parent/guardian would prefer to complete the Human Kinetics Training rather than complete the Parent Workshop (in anticipation of coaching at some point in the future), this is an acceptable alternative. The Parent Like a Champion training is available anytime and can be taken at home. This a one hour course that you can pause and resume. Registration can be found at TeamSideline.
Coaches: In addition to Safe Environment training, all volunteer coaches are required to take the Human Kinetics Course for Seattle CYO Coaches. Seattle CYO Athletics has partnered with Human Kinetics to offer a customized online coaching course incorporating faith-based content. Seattle CYO Athletics Coaches are required to take the Catholic Coaching Essentials online course. Upon successful completion of the course, coaches should use this information to provide a copy of their certificate via email to Brian Haid, St John AD (StJohnAD@St-JohnSchool.org). If you have completed the Coaches PLACT training you will grandfathered in and do not need to take the new course. Coaches do not have to take the Parent Like a Champion workshop.
- This is a 3-hour course that will need to be completed by the 6th week of that specific sports season.
- If not completed by the 6th week of that specific sports season, then that coach will not be eligible for playoffs and/or coach for the next sports season they intend to coach.
- This is a one-time requirement. New coaches will no longer have a season of grace.
- You may stop the course at anytime and resume where you left off.
- There is a final test at the end. You must receive 80% or higher to pass. You will have the ability to retake the test if you do not receive a score of 80% or higher.
- Once you have registered for the course the CYO Athletics office will send you the course materials via email from Human Kinetics. This email will provide you with instructions on how to access and navigate the course online.
If you have any questions, please contact CYO at Athletics@seattlearch.org
