Megan Costa: 2018-2019 Elizabeth Ann Seton Award Winner

Dear Friends and Families of St. Alphonsus Parish & School,

I wanted to thank our school principal, Ms. Cifu, for giving me the incredible honor of receiving the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award this year at our Catholic Schools Week Mass! It has been a blessing to be a part of the St. Alphonsus community for the last four years. Since joining the team in 2015 as 1st grade teacher, I have enjoyed being a part of this supportive and caring school and parish community.

Teaching 1st grade and working with our primary students has brought me so much joy over the years. For the past two years, I have also been blessed with the opportunity to take on new leadership roles outside of the classroom. I have enjoyed working alongside Ms. Cifu as a part of our school’s leadership team, as well as working with Fr. Richard, the sisters, and our youth as St. Alphonsus youth minister.

Thank you to the incredible families, parishioners, teachers and staff that help make our school and parish community so wonderful! I look forward to all the blessings that our year together will bring. I would also like to thank my husband, my parents and family for their endless amount of love and support throughout my teaching career.

Thank you,
Megan Costa

Teacher Luncheon (3)

January Teacher Luncheon

Help show our wonderful faculty and staff how much we appreciate all the time and hard work that they put into giving our children the very best educational experience possible. For the last Thursday of each month, I am organizing volunteers to provide lunch for them in the Teacher’s Lounge.

Use the Sign Up Genius below to volunteer. We need about 4 volunteers to bring mains, sides, salads, desserts, etc. Our next Teacher Luncheon is Thursday, January 31. Feel free to sign up for any month that works for you. It’s a great way to show our appreciation and earn your volunteer hours. (Every $20 spent on food = 1 volunteer hour.)

Contact Katy Coleman with any questions. Thank you!

Welcome New Preschool Teachers!

Nicola Beard will be partnering with Donna Brain in our Montessori based preschool room.  Nicola has a degree in early childhood development from the University of New Hampshire.  She comes to us from a preschool in Kirkland where she created and implemented unit plans, developed daily schedules, and provided consistent two-way communication for families.  Nicola is a wonderful fit for our school family and we are so happy to have her on board this year.

We are very happy to welcome Maureen Wittbold as our exploratory preschool teacher.  Maureen has worked for many years in early childhood and elementary education.  Maureen is a children’s book author and has even taught at the university level.  She is familiar with the archdiocese having worked in area Catholic schools and is very happy to be returning to Catholic education this year as a new member of the St. Al’s community.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Beard and Ms. Wittbold to our school community!

Welcome our new Middle School Math Teacher!

We are happy to welcome our new middle school math teacher, Jamie Walker. Mrs. Walker comes to us with a background in technology, electrical engineering, and mathematics. She has worked as both a math teacher and math specialist for several years in the archdiocese, even serving under our very own Mrs. Foisy for a time at St. Pius X.

Mrs. Walker brings a mix of hands-on project-based learning as well as more traditional methods, making math acquisition fun and accessible for a variety of learning styles. In addition to Math, Mrs. Walker will also teach 7/8 Boys Religion and Homeroom. She is a St. Al’s parishioner and lector for Sunday morning mass, so she is an excellent fit for this new role.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Walker to St. Alphonsus Parish School.
