Hello, St. Al families,
I wanted to send a general note with an apology for the confusing information thus far. CYO is scrambling to put together sports for our kids and the hurdles are high. The biggest issue is field space. Since sports are now opening for all, there is a huge demand for fields. The city has little space available which affects our ability to put together the usual programs. Additionally, we are working within the guidelines for COVID, which means that St. Al/St. John is trying to keep kids within their school cohorts/grades. The only concrete information I can share thus far is for K-3 soccer. We will be forming one St. Al team per grade. I know there are some pre-K parents that are interested in playing. If we have room on the K team, then I will add you to the roster. Official registration will open next week through Happy Feet and you can read more about it in the official announcement below. In the meantime, I would like to gauge interest in K-3 soccer. If your child would like to play or you would like to volunteer, please send me an email with your child’s name and grade.
Thank you,
Julie
Spring Soccer
St. John/Al Happy Feet/Future Legends Spring League
We are HAPPY to announce a Spring K- 3rd-grade school cohort-based soccer league for the St. John/Al school community. This is only made possible through a collaboration with Seattle Happy Feet/ Future Legends. We have worked with the Happy Feet team for years and they offer the top program in the area for growing players.
The program will run from April 25th – June 6th (skipping May 30th for Memorial Day) and will follow the same pattern as the St. John/Al Prek/K League has for years, with 1 hour of coaching and games played on Sunday between 10a – 3p at Sandel Park (behind Fred Myer in Greenwood).
Each Cohort will be kept on the same field matching your child’s school cohort. This means that we will likely have some mixed-gender teams. School rules will be in effect. Mask and shin guards are required, cleats generally standard and preferred. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer soccer to pre-k.
The cost is $88 and will include a jersey. Scholarships are available, please email [email protected] to inquire.
Registration will begin next week through Happy Feet/Future Legends. Each cohort will need to have at least one consistent parent coach volunteer to help with logistics during the weekly sessions. Since the Happy Feet crew take the lead on organizing logistics this is as easy as coaching ever will be, but we must have dedicated volunteers for each team. Volunteers will also need to register (no charge).
For questions or to volunteer please email Julie Giebel (St. Al Athletic Director) or [email protected] (St. John Soccer Coordinator). Please include your child’s grade in your email.
Coed Kickball – 4th-8th Grades
Kickball planning is still in progress. We do have the field issue which may prevent St. Al/John from fielding teams. Stay tuned.
Spring Track
Spring track will likely be virtual (similar to the fall cross country program). CYO is working on hosting a live pentathlon event for the older grades. Stay tuned.
Parent Like A Champion Today Online Workshops
These workshops are required for parents of CYO players. It is a good time to meet this requirement before life gets busy again.
The next scheduled Parent Like A Champion workshop is scheduled for Monday, March 15 at 7:00 pm via Zoom. We have also added the following options, which are now available for parents to register for on Team Sideline.
Thursday, March 18 – 9:30-11:00 am
Wednesday, March 24 – 7:00-8:30 pm
Saturday, April 3 – 9:00-10:30 am
Tuesday, April 6 – 7:00-8:30 pm
Play Like A Champion Today Online Trainings
Coaches are required to attend this training as a general rule. To limit the time on Zoom to 2 hours, we will offer our “Hybrid Course” which means pre-registration is required, and coaches must complete the first hour of the 3-hour training on their own by working through the Pre-Course, and then they would join for the 2 hours on Zoom. It is a good time to meet this requirement before fall.
Wednesday, April 7 – 6:30-8:30 pm
Thursday, April 15 – 6:30-8:30 pm
Coaches can register using the PLACT Registration Form found in the Quick Links at the bottom of the Team Sideline page.
