Queen Anne Food Bank

Angels Giving Back!

This week, Middle School boys and their 1st grade buddies worked together to create snack packs for clients of the Queen Anne Food Bank at Sacred Heart.

The snack packs consist of cereal, pretzels, and chocolate chips donated by Saint Al’s families. The students created enough snack packs to fill 10 grocery bags, which were then delivered to the food back after school. Great job students!

St. John Parish & School Women’s Overnight Shelter

St. John Parish & School Women’s Overnight Shelter

Do you need volunteer hours for St. Al’s? Or, do you have a middle schooler or high schooler seeking volunteer hours or community service experience? Our sister school St. John, is looking volunteers to help at their women’s shelter.

Every Saturday and Sunday night throughout the school year, 12-15 women come and stay at St. John’s Egan Hall. Training is provided and they are in need of:

  • Women/Female Teens who can stay the night. (Teens must be accompanied by their mom)
  • Shuttle Bus Drivers (male or female) willing to be trained and drive the bus for pick/drop off
  • Snack/meals supplied on Saturday night.
If you are interested in learning more about how to help and be involved with this outreach or be added to the signup, please contact Mary Kearney and Kristin Kent.

A Special Message From Saint Martin de Porres Shelter

A Special Message From Saint Martin de Porres Shelter

During National Catholic Schools Week, primary grades created Valentine’s day cards which were delivered to St Martin de Porres Shelter in downtown Seattle. The handcrafted notes were placed on individual sleeping mats of clients who would be staying the night.

Saint Martin de Porres Shelter shared three photos of the cards on their Facebook page, with a message of appreciation. “Thank you, Saint Alphonsus Parish School Seattle, for the Valentine’s Day cards we received today! The men enjoyed reading the cards left on their mats this evening!”

Our school also received a personal follow up note from the shelter, expressing gratitude for our student’s kind gesture. “All of us at St. Martin’s certainly appreciate the school’s support over the years!”

Well done primary grade students!
