5 Tips for Attending Mass
Our school’s mission flows from the Mass: the free and total gift we have received is to be shared with the whole world. Whether you’re a cradle Catholic or never been to Mass before, we want to affirm that all are welcome!
1. Catholic calisthenics are real
Yes, there will be sitting, standing, kneeling, and standing. If you’re new to this, don’t worry. Please do what is comfortable for you, or you can “blend in” just by following along.
2. Look for someone you know
We don’t have to be strangers at Mass. Find a familiar face and welcome someone into your pew. We’re in this together!
3. “The most beautiful thing”
St. Alphonsus said the Mass is “the most beautiful thing in the Church.” The Mass really is the highpoint of our worship as Catholics, and we’re honored to share that beauty with newcomers. True beauty never imposes. Even if you don’t understand everything fully, you’re being invited, not forced, into something deeper.
4. Receiving the Eucharist (Communion)
As Catholics, we truly believe that what is present on the altar is no longer bread and wine, but truly is Jesus Christ. Receiving the Eucharist is a sign of that belief and union with the Church. And so, if you are not Catholic or not prepared to receive the Eucharist, you can either stay in your pew or come forward with your arms across your chest to receive a blessing from the priest.
5. Coffee & Donuts
Don’t leave right after Mass! Come to the Family Center (gym) for social time for adults and kids. Community building happens here. And this is where the Principal distributes non-uniform passes on special days. Don’t miss it!
