A Day in the Life at St. Alphonsus

Over 100 Years

St. Alphonsus Parish School is an accredited Catholic School that welcomes families of all backgrounds. For over 100 years St. Alphonsus Parish School has been offering the families of Ballard and the surrounding community, an excellent Catholic education for Preschool through 8th Grade. Our deep sense of community is fostered by our dedicated staff along with committed parents resulting in a safe, nurturing environment for our students. We develop the whole student in a caring environment, enriched by the faith of the Church and commitment of families.

Excellence in Academic Achievement

A Catholic education is a challenging education.  High standards, strong motivation, effective discipline, and an atmosphere of caring all combine to foster excellence and a high quality of student performance.

Comprehensive Academic Program

The school environment encourages personal and spiritual development while maintaining high academic standards in these core subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Language arts

  • Social studies
  • Religion

Preschool Program

We believe that education begins at age 3. We also believe that combining a Montessori focus with an exploratory focus provides our students with an enriched education to allow each child to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually at his or her own pace. We offer a full-day program for 3 to 5 year-olds three or five days a week.

Success in the Elementary Grades

Beginning in Kindergarten we prepare students by helping them form a solid, developmentally appropriate foundation in the areas of reading, writing, math, and language arts. These skills are expanded upon from grade to grade preparing our Elementary Grade students to succeed in Middle School.

In Our Single Gender Middle School, to Achieve Excellence, We Respect the Differences

Our Single-Gender Middle School offers a unique experience as we separate boys and girls into combined 5th and 6th grade and 7th and 8th grade classes. We believe students at this age gain more confidence and are more motivated to excel when the distractions of a coeducational environment are removed. We offer the best of both worlds, a single-gender academic environment and a coeducational social environment.

Spiritual Enrichment

St. Alphonsus Parish School strives to create a Catholic educational community where teachers, students, and parents/guardians in a spirit of love share human knowledge, enlightened and enlivened by faith. The goals of the school flow from the fundamental understanding that this is a Catholic educational community. Our students learn and practice these values through daily prayers, daily religion lessons, weekly Mass, and age-appropriate community service learning projects.

Teaching Staff

Our expert teachers possess the qualifications to deliver a superior standard of education to our students with an average of 13 years of teaching experience.

Class Size

Our Kindergarten program is organized for a maximum of 22 students. The maximum class size in our Primary classes is 24 students. Our average class size in Middle School is 27 students. Student/teacher ratio is 12:1.

The Catholic School Advantage

Numerous studies show that parents place their children in a Catholic school for three reasons:

  • high academic standards
  • a secure and disciplined learning environment
  • an education which includes growth in spiritual awareness with an appreciation of morals and values.
