Many thanks for all your generosity in 2019 and beyond! Here’s a photo of what your Auction donations brought to the library this week. I was so excited to get the boxes! Some things are utilitarian, like binders to hold STEM lessons, but most items were BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS! I have no doubt that the students will be excited to check out new graphic novels, non-fiction, and exciting fiction.

Many, many thanks to those of you who donated to the library fund at the school auction! We will put those funds to good use by filling even more shelves with fantastic books for all age ranges. Watch this space for updates on what we purchase!
A Note from the Librarian
You guys! The library shelves are overflowing (hyperbole alert!) with the books we were able to purchase from your generous donations at the St. Al’s auction AND from your donations of used books. Since late November, we’ve added 215 books to the school library catalog! For you statistics fanatics, that total breaks down as 81 new books and 134 used. Plus, we’ve already used over 135 yards of book tape to protect our new-to-us books. What a spectacular way to end the calendar year!
Our library donations box will remain in the Commons for those of you looking to re-home your gently used books, from picture books to young adult novels. We also have a wish list on Amazon if you’re interested in purchasing an item in the new year. We in the library, both staff and volunteers, thank you for all your support and wish you a blessed Christmas!

There are not enough words to thank you for your generous donations at the school auction to help keep our school library a strong resource for St. Al’s. We are very excited to purchase many, many of the books the kids have requested and to add current works to our catalog. Plus, we can’t forget about the oh-so-important supply of book repair tape! Thank you and God bless you all for allowing us to continue to promote literacy and community at St. Alphonsus.

Guess what? We don’t only need new books in the library! If you have gently used children’s books that you no longer need at home, please consider donating them to our library. Grades 3-5
Jeffrey Brown, author of the Lucy & Andy Neanderthal graphic novels, as well as some of the Jedi Academy books, will speak with the students, demonstrate how to draw for comics/graphic novels, and answer any questions the kids may have about writing children’s books.

It’s National Library Week!
National Library Week: “Libraries Transform: Libraries Lead”
April 8-14
This week is National Library Week. Our school library has a collection of almost 8,000 books. Every class in the school comes into the library once a week to check in and out books. This school year our students have collectively checked out over 5,000 books!
The library is also used for school meetings, classes, testing, book clubs, STEM classes, coding club, school commission meetings, open houses, staff meetings, the read naturally program, and explode the code program. Over 70 middle school students attend book club each week!
All of this would not be possible without our three amazing library volunteers – Melissa Murphy, Miriam “Granny” Hansen and Sarah Salentine! They have put in a numerous amount of volunteer hours this school year alone!
We would also like to thank all the school families who support the school library with their book donations and generous spending at the Scholastic Book Fairs!
