MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hello St. Alphonsus Community,

This week I have been struggling to process the events that are unfolding in our country.  The violence and destruction hopefully did not overshadow the message of justice for George Floyd and others suffering injustice and racism with their lives. I watched several groups peacefully protest over several days saying the same words we have heard too many times.  It is shameful that in 2020 we are still asking for equal rights; still pleading for freedoms, for inclusion, for life.

Hello St. Al Family and Friends,

This week, my morning announcements have focused on joy.  I have been encouraging students to find joy in everyday experiences and in the comfort of God.  Looking outside today, it is easy to see gloom and dwell on the darkness in the world around us.  But, if we choose to find joy, we can find the hope we need to push through and find the light.  Sometimes we can’t do this alone and the support from God and our community is necessary to push through the darkness and into the light.

Easter is right around the corner. Growing up, Easter for me meant a beautiful new dress with white tights and polished shoes.  It meant a big meal after a special morning at church.  It meant laughter, celebration, and family as we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus.
