Family Fun Night – Friday, October 26

Family Fun Night

Friday, October 26
at the Family Center

Our annual Family Fun Night is creeping up on us!

Please join us for a night of festive fun including carnival games and prizes, a scary cake walk, and a costume contest.  Check out the sign-up genius to see how you can volunteer.

Chili and Cornbread Cook-off at Family Fun Night

Dust off your crock-pot and dig up your award winning family recipes!  We only have room for 15 chili contestants so you will want to register early.

Sign up here to register. Unlimited cornbread entries are allowed. Besides the pride of winning, there will prizes for the best spicy chili, non-traditional chili, kid friendly chili and finally, the best in show! If you don’t cook, come out to enjoy the food and judge the entrees!

Scary Cake Contest

Our Annual Scary Cake Contest is back! Please deliver your scary cake to the cafeteria before school on Friday, October 26. All cakes will be judged by class and prizes will be awarded. The cakes will then be used in the cake walk at Family Fun Night.

No sign up is needed – just have your child bring their cake to school!

Help Us Fulfill our Amazon Family Fun Night Wish List

We will have lots of carnival games this year at Family Fun Night and want to have some fun and exciting prizes for the children to “shop” for after winning tickets at the games. Check our our Amazon Wish List to find items to prize items to purchase. You will get one volunteer hour for every $20 spent!  How easy is that? (And don’t forget to use your Amazon Scrip card when you purchase!)

Calling All Volunteers!

Our Auction Volunteer* Sign Up Genius is alive and well.  Thank you to those already signed up! There are still slots available, and more have been added.

There are quite a few spots suitable for high school students looking for volunteer hours. If you have a high schooler that would like to volunteer, just enter their name (volunteering friends welcome too!) in the comment field of your entry. We can provide email documentation of hours volunteered, if required.

*5 of your families’ 30 volunteer hours should be dedicated to the Auction (2.5 of 15 hours, for pre-school only families).

Auction Dessert Dash Volunteers Needed

“A party without cake is just a meeting.” -Julia Child

Calling all bakers (and baked good lovers)! Karen Leung-Waite is back to take charge of our Dessert Dash once again. Karen is looking for about 25 dessert options this year. Email Karen if you want in on the fun.

Remember, time spent baking or shopping and money spent on baking or shopping count towards your volunteer hours.

Don’t forget to check your inboxes for our Auction Insider, which keeps you up to date on all things Auction related. Past issues can be found on our website.

Lunch Recess Volunteers Needed!

We have returned to full days at school –  which means it’s time for lunch recess.

We need at least 1-2 parents to volunteer every day to ensure the safety of our kids.

This is a great way to get to know your child’s friends and classmates, as well as getting your parent volunteer hours!

We need volunteers:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:50-12:35
and
Tuesday from 12:00-12:45.

Safe Environment Training

Wednesday, September 19

8:45 am
School Cafeteria

If you want to serve as a volunteer working with kids and/or vulnerable adults (classroom aide, field trips, etc.) then you are required to take this training. This training is designed to teach participants how to recognize the signs of abuse, how to respond to suspected abuse and how to keep our ministries, programs and schools safe. More information about Virtus can be found here.

We will be hosting a class after drop-off on Wednesday, September 19 at 8:45 am in the school cafeteria. Please register at virtus.org. Click First-Time Registrant to create a profile and follow the prompts to complete the other requirements of a background check and policies sign-off. One of the prompts is signing up for a class, and you can scroll down until you find ours (although you can take at another location if that is easier for you).

If you think you may already have a virtus profile please contact Charleen Sweet ([email protected]) or Lizzy Scholz ([email protected]). Also, if you are new to the Archdiocese of Seattle, but think you completed this training in another diocese it may carry over, contact Lizzy!

Join us for School Clean-up and Uniform Swap!

School Clean-Up and Uniform Swap
August 25
9am-3pm

Please join the St Alphonsus School community for our annual school clean up!

Stop by any time and help beautify the school for our 2018-19 school year. A uniform swap will be held as well. Feel free to come with outgrown uniforms to donate or just to check out the swap. And your time will count toward your volunteer hours!

Scrip: Thank you, Volunteers!

The Scrip committee would like to thank our volunteers who are graduating this year:
Melissa Murphy
Michelle McMyler
Jean Forster
Lilli Forgette
Without their dedication to Scrip, we wouldn’t be able to run the Scrip program as effectively as we do!

Volunteers Needed

Scrip is looking for volunteers interested in helping sell Scrip next year. We are looking for people during the week and especially after the weekend masses. It’s a great way to earn volunteer hours and meet other St. Al’s families. Please contact Mija Hamilton if you are interested or would like more info.

We’re Marching!

17th of May Festival Parade

Let’s Meet at 5:15 pm on Thursday

Meet at NW 60th St. and 26th Ave NW – there’s a nice little grassy spot. Look for the St. Al’s spirit wear or school sweatshirts, our school banner, and a familiar face or two. All children must be accompanied by an adult (either you or another adult you have communicated with in advance).

Be sure to be dressed in your favorite St. Al’s spirit wear!

Complete Necessary Paperwork in advance

ALL Participants need to complete the following documents and bring it with you:

Individual Hold Harmless Agreement

There are copies in the school office and we’ll have a few extras with us on Thursday.

Parade Starts at 6 pm

Once we know where we will be starting from – the parade organizers line us up – we’ll move from our meeting spot over to the starting location and then join a couple of super cool cars and trucks as our escorts.

Parade Route

The parade route begins at the corner of NW 62nd and 24th Avenue NW. The route follows south to Market Street and eastward to Bergen Place park, then turns right onto 22nd and continues south down Ballard Avenue and ends at Lone St.

Can’t Make the Meeting Time and still want to March?
